Today I got my first acceptance letter, for a short story I submitted for an anthology. September has been a real slog at my day job. For those of you who know me through my place of employment, you know that recent organizational changes have made things difficult. Getting the acceptance email today made all that fade into the background. And even though the editor of the anthology most likely said the same thing to all the authors who were included, his “I’m delighted to say that we really enjoyed your story,” made my day. I’m not sure if I can call this my first publication since my high school literary journal published three poems of mine, but a mere thirty-five years later, this feels pretty good.
