The novel I am working on, Shelf Life, includes a situation where a family farm is being seized in an eminent domain purchase by the state, to facilitate construction of a highway. Researching eminent domain sales is fascinating, more so because I am not at the mercy of one myself. Today I learned that when property is condemned it is seized through eminent domain. I am more interested in situations in which farmland is bought so that construction of infrastructure projects can go through. In central Pennsylvania, a family farm is currently being threatened by a proposed highway project–almost exactly the situation I am trying to create in my novel.
